Puno

Located in the southern highlands of Peru, the most representative point of the department of Puno is the famous Titicaca Lake, sacred place of the Incas and inhabited by natural and artificial islands. In addition, Puno has pre-Hispanic archaeological sites and churches that are characterized by a marked colonial architecture. Its religious festival called ‘Virgen de la Candelaria’ attracts thousands of parishioners and tourists every year.

Cathedral

Located in the Main Square of Puno. Notable church of the 18th century, which stands out for the quality of its structure and its stone carvings. It has a beautiful altar in gold leaf and tips of the Cusco school.

Mirador Kuntur Wasi

In the upper part of the area to the South West of the city. It allows a panoramic view of the city and the lake.

Juliaca

It is the center of communications and commerce of the region. Juliaca has an international airport that connects it to the capital, a train station of the South (Arequipa-Puno-Cusco) and is crossed by the main highway of the region.

Titicaca Lake

It is the highest navigable lake in the world. In the Titicaca there are dozens of islands: the Islands of the Sun and the Moon - the legendary origin of Manco Cápac and Mama Ocllo - are found in the Bolivian part of the lake.

Island of the Uros

Some 300 descendants of the old collas live in these curious 'islands' made of totora, a kind of junk typical of the area.

Taquile Island

It has an organized system of lodging and food for tourists in their own homes. Taquile men wear black pants and white shirts, with a strip of colors called chumpi, while women wear their traditional black robes.

Sillustani

The chullpas or funerary monuments built by the Collas in an esplanade on the Umayo lagoon, reach a height of 12 meters. They are polished stone constructions, with a small access and an internal dome of regular dimensions.

Fried trout

Fish from the lake, served with potatoes, lettuce and chili.
