Tacna

Commercial city, with pleasant temperate climate. Capital of the province and department of the same name, was founded by the Spaniards in 1572. It is located on an extensive flat surface, at the bottom of one of the cuts of the southern coastal tablazo.

The city of Tacna was declared a heroic city by the congress of the Republic of Peru on May 21st, 1828 for its distinguished services to the independence of Peru.

Years later, signed the Treaty of Ancón, celebrated between Peru and Chile on October 20th, 1883, the province of Tacna temporarily moved to the power of Chile being the provisional limit the river Sama, later in 1886 the department of Tacna is reconstituted with its capital Locumba until the return of Tacna by Chile, which became concrete on August 28th, 1929.

Main square
