Located on the right bank of the Tumbes river, the origin of this city – of climate and warm beaches – is linked to a legend that attributes its foundation to Quitombe, son of the cacique Tumbi. Warm and noisy, Tumbes is today an active commercial city and is also the pass to the Woods of Tumbes and starting point to the beaches of Punta Sal, one of its main tourist attractions.
10 km north of Tumbes. It is one of the starting points to visit the estuaries and mangrove forests, famous for their landscapes and faubas. Guided tours by boat.
Main Square
Visit the Main Square, where the 'Encounter of two worlds' stands out, a mosaic that adorns the acoustic shell located at one end of the square.
Jerusalén Walk
Pedestrian path with monuments that portray the life of Jesus Christ. The most emblematic is 15m high and represents the Ascession.
Punta Sal
It is for many the best area of beaches in Peru: clean and warm sea of great ichthyological richness. Sun all year. Located 81 km south of Tumbes.
Zorritos
Its lighthouse, the boardwalk and its sandy beach are famous. It has ideal beaches for surfing. The sea is calm, with rocky areas in its depths and great variety of fishing.
Aguas Verdes
At the frontier, is the point of commercial exchange between Peru and Ecuador. The axis of the town is the International Bridge over the Zarumilla River, through where people crosses to the Ecuadorian city of Huaquillas.
Cebiche of black shells
Black shells cut into squares, cooked in lemon juice and seasoned with chili, salt and onion sauce.
Chinguirito
Liquor mix of coconut water and brandy.
Antecoco
Dessert made from dry coconut, cornstarch, cow's milk and sugar.
